Brands are sometimes separate from manufacturers or the companies operating and owning them. Even though they often start as one and the same, companies tend to delegate the manufacturing process to someone else as they grow, sometime outsourcing entirely to a different country. Brands are also routinely sold to companies. For example, Neutrogena is owned by Johnson & Johnson, they used to manufacture everything in the USA.
